Fiending for links, featuring underwhelming Slam Dunk contestants

(Photo courtesy of NY Super Blog)
1. Ladies and gentlemen, your 2010 All-Star Slam Dunk Contest participants: Nate “KryptoNate” Robinson, Shannon “Sir Posterize” Brown, Gerald “Crash” Wallace, and the winner of the Demar DeRozan/Eric Gordon dunk-off. Honestly, I couldn’t be more underwhelmed by the field. Wallace was eliminated in the first round of the 2002 contest, and we’ve already seen the best that NateRob has to offer. Sorry, but I’m not impressed. (My money is on Shannon by the way. And not just because he has the sexiest-sounding name.)
2. Stephon Marbury is going overseas to play for Shanxi Club of the Chinese Basketball Association. Shanxi has a history of taking on risky American players. Last season they signed perennial head case Bonzi Wells.
3. Amar’e Stoudemire anticipates a trade, Jerry Stackhouse replaces Michael Redd in Milwaukee, and Kevin Martin isn’t fitting in with the Kings.
4. Henry Abbott of True Hoop on what basketball can do for Haiti. My heart goes out to Samuel Dalembert. What a tough time this must be for him and others who have family in that country.
5. Congratulations to The Basketball Jones crew for putting together a spectacularly entertaining show to celebrate their 500th episode. I learned unimaginably weird things about J.D., heard Tas Melas sing Boyz II Men, and witnessed The TBJ’s spot-on imitation of James Lipton. Well done, gentlemen. (H/T to Kelly Dwyer as well for a terrific TBJ tribute.)

Fiending for Links, Featuring Allen Iverson’s Philly Debut

1. Allen Iverson kicked off his second campaign in Philly with 11 points and six assists as the Nuggets defeated the Sixers 93-83. I wasn’t able to watch the game because, well, it’s Finals week and I’m half-dead, but here’s a great Twitter recap from Rey over at The No-Look Pass and some sweet video highlights courtesy of Ball Don’t Lie. Despite his lackluster debut, I think A.I.’s going to be a positive addition to the Sixers.
2. J.E. Skeets and Tas Melas of The Basketball Jones “show love” to all 30 teams in the NBA with an awesome music video featuring a mullet wig, an ill-fitting stocking cap, and an over-the-top studio montage that rivals only Leroy Smith in the scope of its campiness. My life is now complete.
3. Sports Media Watch got to experience a day in the life of “NBA on TNT.” Lucky dog. I’m definitely adding that to my bucket list. Spend time with Charles, Ernie and Kenny. Goes right below Break up Jessica Alba and Cash Warren and Find a way to get Mitch Richmond into the Hall of Fame. Yeah, I have a weird bucket list.
4. Tim Donaghy cleared the air about his referee gambling scandal for what felt like the 3,000th time on CBS’ “60 Minutes” Sunday. There’s some interesting information here, but it’s mostly just PR for Donaghy’s upcoming book: “How I Made Lots of Money By Being a Scumbag.”
5. Brendan Haywood weighs in on Elin Woods’ $5 million prenup adjustment. Can’t buy me love? Yeah right. Looks like Tiger just did.
By the way, a belated “Happy Birthday” to Larry Bird who turned 53 yesterday. Gotta recognize the legends. (H/T, Len Berman.)
