1. “Sonicsgate,” a documentary about the Sonics’ abrupt move to Oklahoma City, was released last night. The doc features original interviews from guys like Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp and broadcaster Kevin Calabro. Watch it for free at sonicsgate.org. (H/T Ball Don’t Lie.)
2. Francisco Garcia of the Kings broke his arm Friday when the exercise ball he was using for weightlifting popped. Cisco will be out of commission for 4 months. Somewhere, Eddy Curry is having a good laugh about this.
3. Things may have been sunny for Andre Miller in Philadelphia, but in Portland it’s a different story. Bethlehem Shoals discusses Miller’s frustration with the Blazers and touches on some deeper issues, namely Miller’s insecurity about his reputation.
4. After an intense eye surgery rehabilitation, Amare Stoudemire is happier than ever to be back on the court, according to ESPN.com’s Marc Stein. Coach Alvin Gentry says Stoudemire is showing a renewed sense of purpose on defense and has become more of a team leader; so much so that Gentry named him a team captain. The hype is nice, but let’s not forget it’s a potential contract year for Stoudemire.
5. Wendell Maxey of Slam Online paints Tyreke Evans’ journey to the NBA as Hoop Dreams gone right and tells us, “[Tyreke] was the kid who slept with his basketball.” Hyperbole aside, I think Evans is going to have a very good rookie season with the Kings.

Just got done watching ” Sonicsgate “. Pretty depressing, but I think the story was told in a fair manner. Especially since at the end of the movie they mention how David Stern, Clay Bennett, and Howard Schultz were all asked to be interviewed for the movie and all declined the invitations.
So, they all were given a chance to defend themselves and explain their side of the story but passed.
I’d like to know how the Thunder fans in OKC feel about their ” savior ” Clay Bennett since it was proven in the movie (the infamous emails) that he and his partners blatantly lied to the people of Seattle about their intentions. To this day, I don’t know how Clay Bennett ended up not being found guilty of perjury.

As a journalism student, I’m encouraged by the efforts of the documentary makers to portray both sides by attempting to talk to Stern, Bennett and Schultz. I was worried that wouldn’t be the case.
I’ll reserve judgment on Bennett until after I watch the doc, but I will say that I feel incredibly disheartened about what happened to the fans of Seattle. I’m a Kings fan and the situation with OKC makes me worried. The same thing could easily happen in Sacramento. The threat of a move is on the horizon and Stern’s blind eye in the Seattle mess doesn’t give me much comfort about the League taking care of fans in Sactown.
