Aaron Fischman Interviews:
Jacoby Ford

Coming out of high school at Fort Union Military Academy, Jacoby Ford was valued for not only his wide receiving skills, but also his abilities as a kick returner and specialist. In his freshman season at Clemson, Ford has done a bit of everything for the Tigers. Not only did he gain 310 yards receiving and 4 receiving touchdowns, he also picked up 172 yards on the ground and over 300 yards on kick and punt returns. Add all of that up and Jacoby was fourth on the team in total yards, with 801. Aaron Fischman spoke with Jacoby before Monday's Chick-fil-A Bowl. The bowl game, on New Year's Eve, will pit #15 Clemson against #23 Auburn and it should be an excellent game. Read on for Jacoby's opinion of the match-up.

Aaron Fischman: Who do you think was most deserving of the Heisman Trophy this season?

Jacoby Ford: I think that Tim Tebow deserved the Heisman because he performed each week, day in and day out.

AF: What was it like to win the Bowden Bowl? Is it really just another game when your coach, Tommy Bowden, faces his father, Bobby Bowden?

JF: I mean, it's always big to beat FSU, just because of their history, so I was happy to get the win this season. It was great for us to come out and start the season off with a big win like that.

AF: After losing to Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech, Clemson has won 5 of their last 6. How did you guys turn it around?

JF: We just simply put that game behind us and continued to play ball because we all knew we had more games to come. We just dug in and sucked up the loss and had a little more fire to us.

AF: Talk about the game against Boston College, in which your team lost 20-17. How was Matt Ryan able to march down the field like he did?

JF: I mean, [Matt] is a great player and he just made some plays when it came down to the wire.

AF: How important was it to win the last game of the regular season against South Carolina? Talk about the late-game heroics of kicker Mark Buchholz.

JF: It's always important to beat the in-state rival. You go into a hostile environment, so it's a lot of fun to play in and Mark just simply came through in the end and made the game-winning field goal.

AF: Clemson QB Cullen Harper and WR Aaron Kelly are a phenomenal combination in the passing game. If both return next year, how good can this duo be?

JF: I think they can be as good as anyone in the country.

AF: What does C.J. Spiller's versatility mean to this team? [Editor's note: Spiller runs, catches and returns punts and kicks. Much like Ford, himself].

JF: C.J. is a guy that we can use just about anywhere to create havoc for a defense [that] has to try to defend a running back that can play any position.

AF: What effect does your 5'9", 180 lb frame have on your game?

JF:[I] think it makes me tougher than people think I really am. I get underestimated a little bit.

AF: What can you tell us about your bowl game opponent, Auburn? What has your team done to prepare for the Chick-fil-A Bowl?

JF: Auburn is a good, tough, physical team. My team has been practicing great and I think [we] will be well-prepared when it comes to game time.

Now that you've read Jacoby Ford's opinion about the Chick-fil-A Bowl, be sure to watch the game on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Ford's 9-3 Clemson Tigers will be taking on the 8-4 Auburn Tigers.
