Heather Bates

 

 

 

 

Heather Bates is a 5'11" senior from Madera, California. She starts at forward for the UC Davis
Women's Basketball team and has helped guide her team to a 4-0 start, including a win against
Washington in the Waikiki Beach Classic in Hawaii. On the season, Bates is averaging 10.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game while shooting an impressive 51.6% from the field and 42.1% from beyond the arc. In a correspondance with The Deli's own Aaron Fischman, Bates discusses her favorite moment at UC Davis, her hobbies and her plans for this Thanksgiving holiday.

Nickname: Batesypoo

Siblings (and corresponding ages): Nick (19), Lexi (16) and Tyler (13)

Favorite sport (other than basketball): I love going to baseball and football games.

Reasons for choosing UC Davis: The team and the coaching staff, the college atmosphere and the Band-uh. :)

Favorite class taken at UCD: Human Development 140 [Editor's note: this is a lab class titled Laboratory in Early Childhood]

Best moment of your basketball career: Beating Pac 10 Washington and winning the Hawaii tourney. :)

Hobbies: Laughing, napping, shopping, reading magazines, talking, my puppy Molly and watching Grey's Anatomy.

Team goal: 1st - Win League. 2nd - Win the Big West tourney. 3rd - NCAA tourney.

Personal goals: Make the most of the chance I've been given to come back for one more year...and graduate!

Thanksgiving plans: I'd just like to drive home safely and miss the traffic. Then I'd just like to relax, spend the day with my family and eat some nice, home-cooked food. Maybe even take a nap. :)
