Joshua Fischman Interviews:
Andrew Hatch

Andrew Hatch is a back-up quarterback for the LSU Tigers who transferred to LSU from Harvard University. Hatch, a 6'3", 215 lb QB from Nevada, will be ready to step in for the Tigers in the event that anything happens to Matt Flynn and Ryan Periloux. Hatch's position is an important one because LSU is playing in a very important game coming up. If you've been living underneath a rock or something, LSU is competing for the national championship on Monday, January 7 against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Before the game, Hatch caught up with Deli writer Joshua Fischman for an exclusive pre-BCS Bowl interview.

Joshua Fischman: What is special about this LSU team? Talk about the season this team has had.

Andrew Hatch: This team has a lot of heart. We have kind of had a rollercoaster season where we have had some incredible wins, but also a couple [of] painful triple-overtime losses.

JF: Describe Les Miles' coaching style. Why is he so valuable to your team?

AH: Coach Miles always gets us prepared. He pays great attention to detail during the week in our preparation and always gets the team ready to go on gameday. He is a great coach to play for.

JF: What has Matt Flynn taught you? With Matt gone, what do you have to do to get the starting QB job next season?

AH: Matt has passed along a lot of knowledge about playing quarterback and [has] helped me progress quickly in learning the offense this season. I'm pretty much just focused on this season right now, but [I] will just try to continue to progress and improve my game each day.

JF: Talk about the excitement that playing in the BCS championship game has brought to your school.

AH: With all the craziness of the end of the season, we didn't know we would play for the championship until the day of the announcement. When we heard we got a spot in the game it was awesome. Everybody just went crazy when we all saw it on TV in our meeting room.

JF: What do you know about Ohio State, and what are you doing to prepare for them?

AH: Ohio State seems like a talented team with good size. We've been practicing hard and preparing to bring them a great game.

JF: How do you expect the championship bowl game to play out?

AH: The championship should be a great game between two very talented teams.

JF: Who do you think deserved to win the Heisman Trophy?

AH: I think Tim Tebow was definitely deserving of winning it, but after seeing [Darren] McFadden play in person, I would have probably had to vote for him. He was an impressive player.

JF: What was Harvard University like? Please talk about the decision process you went through in transferring from Harvard to LSU.

AH: Harvard is a great place. Everybody knows about the academic reputation, but some don't realize that they play D1 football there and the players work as hard as anyone in the country. I decided that the opportunity to play at LSU was very special and I had to pursue it. I had worked closely with Coach Crowton during my high school years at camps and thought it would be great to continue to work with him. Playing for Coach Miles and Coach Crowton has been great. It has been an awesome season.

Now that you've heard from Andrew, be sure to watch his Tigers take on OSU on Monday night. Game coverage will begin at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Fox. This is the end of Bowl Season, sports fans. Don't miss this great game.
