                                                     Fantasy Football Week 2

September 10, 2008 - What to do in Brady's Absence

Week 1 is behind us. Let the almighty smack talk begin. Sketchy trade proposals, nervous late-night pick-ups and an overall sense of unease until Sunday. That will be the norm for us for the next four months. This truly is the promised land.

This week in Fantasy Falafel we take a look at three key developments that you should take a look at if a rough draft left you with a patchy roster. You're welcome.

1. Week 1 Tight End Sleepers

A draft day conundrum always seems to be the tight end position. "You drafted him too high!" seems to be a common exclamation in the draft room. But if you were stuck picking the last TE left in the draft, you might be thinking 'I hate tight ends' right now.

Now before we go and upset Jeremy Shockey -- which I think we can all agree is a bad idea -- let's look at the surprise tight ends around the league.

Carolina's Dante Rosario sure looked good against the Chargers on Sunday with 7 catches for 96 yards and a trip to the end zone. He led the Panthers' passing game during Week 1. When Steve Smith returns from suspension, Rosario could take a hit in numbers. But the second-year player is definitely worth a look. He produced against a good San Diego defense. If Rosario can do the same thing against the Bears next week we may have a legit TE on our hands.

Also worth mentioning is Miami's Anthony Fasano. Fasano did his part to get noticed with 8 catches for 84 yards and a TD against the Jets in Week 1. This makes him the lesser of two sleepers (Rosario being the #1 TE pick-up), but there is a lot of potential for Fasano if your team doesn't have a good TE option.

2. Philly's Wide Receiving Corps

Another situation to keep your eye on is the Eagles' receiving corps, which piled up 361 yards on Sunday. What's really of note is how Donovan McNabb spread the ball around in Week 1. Three receivers topped 100 yards on the way to a devastating Philly win. Watch DeSean Jackson, Greg Lewis, and Hank Baskett this weekend and pick up the best producer of the bunch. Each is a candidate to shore up a weak WR spot on your team.

3. New England's Quarterback Situation

This is the leading candidate for dominant news story that has lasted far longer than we wanted it to. With Tom Brady out for the season -- I told you he wasn't going to be the best fantasy QB this season -- Matt Cassel isn't looking too shabby. Although Brady may have been the key to the Patriots' high-powered offense, they still have a great offensive line, a great receiving corps, and capable running backs. Those offensive weapons should make it easy for just about anybody to look good.

Although Cassel is probably already picked up in your league, make sure you keep an eye on the situation -- as if ESPN is going to let you ignore it -- to make sure the Patriots don't decide to get outside help at QB. Any quarterback signing in the next few weeks in Boston should demand close attention because that player has the potential to take the starting job away from Cassel.

Alright, I've given you three things to consider and there are still 15 weeks of glorious regular season football left. If anything can make me happier than that, I don't know what it is. What's that? Girls? No, definitely not. They can wait until February for my attention, just like everyone else.

As always, good luck. I'll see you next week.
